J. Wren Kim, Ph.D. (Principal Investigator)
Jungwoo Wren Kim (김정우) is from Seoul, Korea. He studied Biological Sciences at Seoul National University before moving to the United States for graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his PhD in the laboratory of Ted and Valina Dawson, where he studied mRNA translation in Parkinson’s disease models. Wren then joined Nicholas Ingolia’s laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, as a postdoctoral fellow. During his time at Berkeley, Wren developed calcium-dependent protein labeling strategies and applied them to study activity-associated molecular processes in neurons. In 2026, he joined the Advanced Science Research Center at the CUNY Graduate Center as an Assistant Professor. In his lab, he hopes to bring new perspectives and technologies from molecular and cellular biology to neuroscience to advance our understanding of brain function and dysfunction.
